Book Reviews of What to Expect the First Year, Second Ed

Book Review: A great companion
Summary: 5 Stars

Having a brand new baby (even second time around) can be a daunting experience to say the least. This book was incredibly helpful for me - well-researched, sensible advice which is quick and easy to find (great index). There are brilliant reference sections including one on baby illnesses for those plentiful moments when you are utterly convinced there is something wrong (even when there isn't). You don't have to follow it slavishly but I found the 'What to Expect' series easily the most comprehensive and up-to-date (and free of silly theories) baby and infant books on the market.

Book Review: Saved a tired new mum
Summary: 4 Stars

Really good factual read. Covers everything question I could have posed from - is this poo normal - to why do my breasts leak!!! A life saver.

Book Review: New Baby Gift
Summary: 3 Stars

The gift of a new baby is something that men and women meet with varied feelings. From the day the new baby gift baskets arrive, to the baby showers and diaper changes, many people can get involved in the birth of one new baby.

What To Expect In The First Year is an excellent introduction into what to expect during the time your new baby is likely to challenge you the most.

Definitely worth getting as a gift for any couple with a baby on the way.

Book Review: The light through the minefield
Summary: 5 Stars

Your first year with a new baby can be like trying to navigate your way through a minefield at midnight - there's no obvious right or wrong route through! This book provides you with a light in the darkness - common sense advise, month by month, as it becomes appropriate. An excellent book! One word of advise, though - read the first sections, including the 1st month, BEFORE the baby is born, and bookmark the sections on crying, sleep, etc! We finally managed to get some spare time to pick up the book as our daughter entered her second month - a real shame as there was so much in there that could have helped us during those first few difficult weeks!

Book Review: Dreadful Breastfeeding Information
Summary: 1 Stars

Please don't rely on this book for breastfeeding information.
This book is incredibly out of date, has no evidence based information and everything presented as fact has now been disproven.
They shouldn't be allowed to print such wrong and harmful advice.
Try reading Bestfeeding, or The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding for accurate information.
