Book Reviews of When You Are Engulfed in Flames

Book Review: Brilliant
Summary: 5 Stars

Hysterically funny and unexpectedly moving. Once again we get an insight into David's insecurities and his deep love of his parents, brother and sisters, saintly boyfriend, neighbours, monkeys (I counted nine references) and even the much maligned Yiayia. Highly recommended.

Book Review: AMAZING!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved this book! David Sedaris is a beautiful writer. He's incredibly funny and witty, but he also has an amazing amount of humanity. This collection does not disappoint! GET IT!

Book Review: Bracing and funny....like a cold martini thrown in your ex's face
Summary: 4 Stars

A very enjoyable read, with a couple of pieces that may be among Sedaris' very best. It does however, feel like there are couple of essays that should have been left out of this collection-pieces that did not add to the book as a whole, or seemed too similar to each other. I do think that "Solution to Saturday's Puzzle" is one of the great pieces of humorous writing, up on a level with Wodehouse's "Clicking of Cuthbert," which it resembles in almost no way. Frankly, the book is worth it for the giggles and guffaws to be found in that story alone, the rest of the collection is icing on the literary cake (though perhaps occasionally spread a bit too thick).
Buy this book and enjoy the sharp hilarity of our dreary lives...and if you like it, you might want to try Marc Acito's new novel. He's another one of our wittiest writers.

Book Review: History repeats itself
Summary: 2 Stars

I love David Sedaris, but I have to agree with the other reviewer that this book is like one of those "Best of" albums. Although I did smile/laugh to myself a couple of times, often it was a sense of familiarity rather than with surprised, belly laugh mirth. Sedaris also perhaps did not benefit by my mental comparison to a book I had just read, Bringing Home the Birkin, by a first time writer I had never heard of, but who had a unique tale. I couldnt help but think that Sedaris needs to DO something soon...climb everest, maybe, or take a road trip. SOMETHING. Please. And soon.

Book Review: Kindle and David Sedaris
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first purchased my kindle I was dissapointed that the kindle store did not feature the entire Sedaris library but to my suprise 6 am I searched for Sedaris and the new book was right up front. What an uplifting and humourfilled book thus far A+
