Book Reviews of When the Bough Breaks (Alex Delaware)

Book Review: Five reasons why I disliked the book...
Summary: 2 Stars

1. I felt as if I were being talked down to--and looked down upon--by the author throughout the entire story. 2. There were continual references to the hero's intellectual and professional "brillance"; and since our hero is a psychologist just like Kellerman himself is in real life, I kept getting the icky feeling that I was witness to some sort of vicarious ego trip for the author. 3. Often the dialogue comes off as a lecture or lesson. 4. The main character showed little regard for the feelings and situations of the other characters. 5. The story culminates with a kind of improbable perfect-timing luck that makes me question the author's creative effort.

Book Review: A good book
Summary: 3 Stars

I think that Jonathan Kellerman's novel is a very good book even if there are a lot of unbelievable connections between the characters. It seems a book written in a movie style, with all the most important features of a movie: suspense, action and surprise.

Book Review: Extremely well written but the most evil book I've read.
Summary: 3 Stars

The book was written very well. I couldn't but it down. However the whole idea was morbid and sickening. I read the book because of the child psychology connection but it was too evil for my liking.

Book Review: Good story, but violent
Summary: 3 Stars

This was my first J. Kellerman book. I found it to be smartly written, though the subject matter was depressing. It included sexual abuse of children, chronic drug abuse, and much violence and murder. My next book by this author, in chronoligical order, will be Blood Test. If I find the subject matter to contain similar amounts of violence and atrocities, it will be the last book I will read by this author. I would have awarded more stars to this interesting story had it not contained so much violence.

Book Review: A gut-wrenching, heart wrenching drama. Well done.
Summary: 5 Stars

This was the first book I read by Kellerman, and I still feel it's his best. The author spins a well-woven drama, with important characters and a steady build. It was at times difficult, but really more sad, only because of what happens to a child. The tale is gripping. It got me hooked on Alex Delaware novels. I've read most of them since reading "When The Bough Breaks". If you haven't read any of Kellerman's Alex Delaware novels, and read but one, make it this one. Then you'll find you've made a liar out of yourself. It'll hook you.
