Book Reviews of WhirlwindBook Review: a conundrum Summary: 4 Stars
After Taipan, Noble House, and Sho-gun, I read whirlwind on a high. to say it's disappointing isn't fair in light of the quality of the other books, but...This book has as always his rich characters, and a great backdrop for a story, in some ways a more intriguing one than that of the others, since this is an event in our own historical context as well as a very tumultuous time. The problem for me is none of the characters are that overwhelmingly memorable. There is no Dirk Struan, or Blackthorne. The clossest is the finn, who is a great character, caught in the bind of the revolution because his wife is native, and more importantly noble born. A good read in my opinion, but it pales in light of his other books, that said, it is still a pretty good book, suffering only in comparison to his other work
Book Review: too long Summary: 3 Stars
It took me two months to read this book because I kept losing interest. I enjoyed learning what happened to the Noble House, but there was too much technical babble and political intrigue. Two things I did like about it though were the two Iranian woman's stories and the fate of Robert Armstrong and Peter Mzytrk(Suslev).
