Book Review: Looks at the knotty problems of Islam
Summary: 5 Stars

It is fairly clear from many of the comments that Islam does not in general encourage critical thinking. It is long overdue for the sort of secular scholarship that was applied to Christianity and Judaism in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. If readers look at Ibn Warraq's other two books, The Origins of the Koran and The Search for the Historical Mohammed, they will see that he has studied a great deal and is not the ignoramus that some of the commentators make out...

This book is one man's view of Islam, based both on personal experience and on research. The title, of course, refers to Bertrand Russell's famous Why I am not a Christian.

I hope that many people, both muslim and non-muslim, will read this book with attention and be stimulated by it, whether or not they finally agree with its thesis.

Book Review: Know the true Islam that Muslims hide!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a good book and it shows the sort of information that Muslims will not want you to know.

They try to present a view where Islam is a good religion for the west because they chop and prune it to fit the view of the west.

If you want to know what Islam is about then this is the book for you to read.

Book Review: 2nd Rate
Summary: 1 Stars

A disappointing book, after reading Bertrand Russell's 'Why I Am Not A Christian' i was anticipating a similarly ground-shaking exposition of the inconsistencies and incoherences of this religion. Instead what the author presents is a subjective work based on the edges of this doctrine - the author quite clearly steers away from the creed of islam and focusses on the practises. What (as far as i am aware) is still lacking is a work which successfully deconstructs this religion from its core...

Book Review: easy to understand but needs a proper introduction on islam
Summary: 5 Stars

The book is well written and easy to understand. it gives basically everything that is to be known about islam from the very early days of the religion to its present day.
But in order to grasp some of the points made one has to be aware of the characters of the bible and should also be aware of the Jewish and Muslim beliefs.
This is the book for anyone who wants to know the real Islam inside out.

Book Review: A Useful antidote to traditional mythology
Summary: 5 Stars

Ibn Warraq has performed an important service by summarising a large amount of recent scholarly work on Islam. His first concern is that the main victims of the intolerant attitudes currently promoted among Moslems are Moslems themselves. He argues that the idea of promoting truth by forbidding people to say anything deemed wrong is a sure way to prevent the development of real understanding. The desire to silence those deemed to have wrong attitudes is incompatible with the development of modern society. Ibn Warraq argues this with a mass of detail about the development of Islam and about its current practices. Anyone interested in debating the role of Islam should read this book whether they are initially sympathetic to the authors position or not.
