Book Reviews of Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner (Includes Author's Book of Shadows)Book Review: Good general sourcebook for solitary Wiccans Summary: 3 Stars I'll admit, this was a good book to have when I was just starting out. Like Silver Ravenwolf's "To Ride a Silver Broomstick", it presents a broad overview of what Wicca is about, and is specially geared toward solitary practice. With the growing numbers of solitaries and plain ol' curiosity seekers springing up all over the U.S. these days, a beginning sourcebook is a definite plus. However, some of my criticisms of "Broomstick" hold here as well. Cunningham's bare-bones presentation leaves something to be desired, although it also encourages additional research, something that solitaries in particular should do anyway--in Wicca, there is no One Book that explains it all. In other words, I wouldn't recommend to anyone that you base your practice on this book alone, or elect to become a Wiccan based solely on the content of this book. Do some more reading first--Janet Thompson's "Of Witches", Janet and Stewart Farrar's "A Witches Bible", and some good history books, for example. "A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" has a lot to offer, but it doesn't offer everything. Even so, I still refer to it from time to time for basic information.
Book Review: Excellent for the novice. Summary: 5 StarsThis book gave not only excellent drawings of the "tools" used in Wiccan Practice to aid in visulization of the equipment, but further increased my study of the Wiccan belief. Cunningham, in understandable English, not mystical jargon, did not try to "show off" or impose his knowledge of the tradition onto the novice--and I admire that. He gave detailed instructions on the set-up of an altar, ritual, spell and so on. I recommend this book if you have curiostiy about the Wiccan tradition. Cunningham is quite thorough in description of the belief, the holidays, the titles of the goddess and god and many more interesting topics.
Book Review: If your planning on being a solitary wiccan buy this book. Summary: 4 StarsMany of the techniques in this book can be used by a wiccan at any level. It is a extremely useful foundation builder, and is great source of information on wicca.

A must read for anyone who is interested in Wicca, this book covers all the basics in Wicca today. Scott Cunningham guides, rather than preaches, solitary practice in a way that will reach anyone who is searching.
