Book Reviews of Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner (Includes Author's Book of Shadows)Book Review: Mixed Bag, Overall Pretty Good Summary: 4 StarsAs a newbie, I found this book to be pretty decent. It's definitely not the be-all-end-all, in my least humble opinion. I found that having done a great deal of research on the internet (And reading "The Spiral Dance" and "Drawing Down the Moon") I didn't find much new in here. I also think that Cunningham went a little overboard on the tools information (especially since just prior to that he stated that you don't need tools--it just comes off a little contradictory). Overall though, I think this is a solid introduction, an easy read, and filled with practical information and guidance.
Book Review: This is a great book! Summary: 5 StarsI have been interested in and practicing Wicca for over twenty years. The first book I read about Wicca was Sybil Leek's book The Complete Art of Witchcraft. After reading The Charge I knew that this was for me and I wanted to learn more. Several years later I obtained the Witches Bible by Janet and Stewart Farrar but I couldn't find anyone interested in starting a Coven in my area and although they pointed me to Doreen Valiente's Witchcraft for Tommorrow (which is also a book for solitaries), the Sabbats were lacking. I also read Spiral Dance at this time and again it is very well written but it was geared towards group work.I had been reading Scott Cunningham's other books and they were all very helpful but when I found this one I was forever grateful. He clearly showed how one could write their own ceremonies to perform and he gives many good exercises. Unlike To Ride a Silver Broomstick he doesn't ignore the Goddess or the Holy Days for that matter. Instead of just explaining them in one paragraph (the Sabbats) he gives actual ceremonies that can be performed and he says that you can also write your own with excellent pointers to other books for study. He will be truly missed by many in the Wiccan/Pagan community.
Book Review: Awesomeo! Summary: 5 StarsI myself am a beginner at all of this stuff, a good friend of mine had been telling me about it so I got the book and read it and I fell in love! The best part is - I can understand what the author is trying to say... The book is easy to read and enthralling. It has all that's neccessary to help out beginners so they can find their place.. I love it!
Book Review: Great book to start with! Summary: 5 StarsThis was one of the few books I've read on ANYTHING that actually kept my interest long enough to finish it in one sitting. The author's writing style is easy to understand. His knowledge of Wicca and the way he writes about it is especially helpful for those starting out.
Book Review: a must have Summary: 5 StarsMerry Meet. . . If you wish to practice Wicca, but you don't want to be a member of a coven, or can't find a coven to join, buy this book! This book contains a complete system for the solitary practitioner. Scott also explains that none of the rituals are "holy writ," and that's it's okay to change them, or to create your own. Also includes a suggested reading section which is helpful if you wish to read further. Merry Part. . . Blessed Be!
