Book Reviews of Wild Fire

Book Review: A Dangerous World
Summary: 4 Stars

Once again De Mille has written a provacative novel. It is both enertaining and thought provoking. I could hardly put it down. It is one of his better pieces of work.

The theme in the book is that a very rich, powerful and deranged individual could bring about a nuclear tradegy. Moreover, that this might even be encouraged behind the scenes by our government. The story raises one's conscienciousness regarding the fact that either domestic or foreign terrriosts could destroy our world. That, infact, bellerent governments might enable it to happen. The book also points up the lack of cooperation that sometimes prevents our national security agencies from stopping such a holocaust. But DeMille's main character ignores the protocol and red tape of such bureauracies and cuts to the chase.

The book is also very funny as De Mille's protagonist is both cynical and smart. This book is far better than his last, although becomes redundant at times.

Wild Fire left me wondering if in fact a war mongering government might have used such trickery to give us an excuse to invade the Moslem World or might do so on a grander scale to attack Iran or North Korea in the future. I"ll take my chances with diplomacy, thanks.

De Mille mixes fact with fiction, as so many novalists like to do today. But as we have seen since September 11th, truth is stranger than fiction.

Book Review: A Dreadful Book
Summary: 1 Stars

I find the quality of Nelson DeMille's writing to be extremely variable - his books with a military backing such as Word of Honor, Up Country and The General's Daughter were superb, but his other books are generally only fair to mediocre.

This one hits rock bottom, an unbelievable plot - and an even more unbelievable way for the plot to be uncovered - plus a silly sub plot about John Corey and his previous nemesis, cardboard characters, an overdone smartass approach by Corey and banter between him and his wife that becomes tedious to read.

A big disappointment

Book Review: A Fallen Star
Summary: 1 Stars

I always read the customer reviews before I read a book. The earlier reviews of Wild Fire were good. I then spent about a week reading it and could not figure out if I was out of touch. I see the later reviews, which were negative, are right on point. This book was not up to DeMille's standards I even got tired of Corey's wisecracking

The premise made no sense. The middle of the book was endless. The end was predictable and the only interesting question in my mind in the whole book was not answered.

My recommendation is to read or reread an earlier effort.

One of the reviewers said DeMille said this is his last book under this contract. I only hope the next effort will show a fresh start.

Book Review: A Fine Line
Summary: 4 Stars

This is another entertaining novel featuring the (un)lovable John Corey. Unlike his previous adventures, however, Wild Fire has Corey up against more than an evil plot by external sources -- he's up against an internal threat and moral lunacy.

When powerful people believe it's okay to kill a million of us to wipe out 100 million of "them", John Corey must race against time (and two corporate jets), out smart his enemy, the FBI, the local police, and even his own wife at times to bring the sinister plot to an end.

It's classic Corey! His ego should get him killed a hundred times over, but his charm saves the day. I love how he flirts his way to gather new clues and gadgets required to bail him out of the toughest of situations.

Book Review: A Good Read
Summary: 3 Stars

Dialogue was a little over the top. In all her other appearances, Kate Mayfield never had as bad a vocabulary as she did in this one. DeMille seemed to be trying to drop enough F-bombs to rival Tony Montana. Looking foward to his next one which is a sequel to Gold Coast.
