Book Review: Another Step In The WRONG Direction For DeMille
Summary: 1 Stars

Unfortunately, I just finished "Wild Fire" and am sad to report that DeMille's quality is continuing the slide downward that began with "Night Fall".

Through his magnus opus "Up Country", Nelson DeMille was my favorite fiction author. But in his last two books, he's decided to weave his stories in and out of catastrophic real-life events. I frankly don't care about John Corey's posiiton on George W. Bush or when to invade Iraq...I appreciate an author who creates an entirely new universe and populates it USING HIS IMAGINATION. Just like DeMille used to do in his other novels. Shoehorning real life events into his recent books has taken priority over a strong narrative and the storytelling suffers under this neglect. It's a blatant attempt at broadening his appeal that does so at the detriment of his longtime fans' intellect.

It's also worth noting he's writing books now that run about half the number of pages his past work offered. It's been pointed out he has contractual deadlines to deliver a book every November...I personally don't feel like this is a valid justification for the startling decrease in pages and by extension, story.

Overall, it's sad to realize that the author whose work I fell in love with is no longer committed to the same level of quality he used to consistantly provide.

Book Review: Another Thriller from DeMille
Summary: 5 Stars

Nelson DeMille wows us again with a plausible plot, snappy banter, and a compelling narrative. For those that believe the basis of the story is too far fetched, we only have to look back at the actual 9-11 event. Truth was stranger than fiction then and all bets are off now. As a Soldier currently serving in Afghanistan I can tell you that the threat to our nation is very real. We need more John Coreys out there questioning and probing as they challenge conventional wisdom. And John and Kate are the centerpiece of the action. You like them, laugh at their dialogue and want them to succeed. Like he did with Night Fall, DeMille mixes fact and fiction to the point that the two blend. This book could serve as a thought provoking International Relations text as much as it is a page turning thriller. Wild Fire is a must read for all DeMille fans and a good entry point for those unfamiliar, if that's possible, with his work. AR

Book Review: Another Winner
Summary: 5 Stars

Being a dedicated DeMille fan, I had high hopes for Wild Fire. I was not disappointed. As always, his story line is so hard to believe that it's believable, leaving us wondering if it is truly fiction ... or is it real? The quick wit of his characters, Detective John Corey in this series, provides a little levity to a scary scenario. I remain a DeMille fan, and look forward to his next work.

Book Review: Another great John Corey book
Summary: 4 Stars

I love the John Corey character, and had to have this book the moment it was released. I'm not sure I liked this book as much as the others (Plum Island, Lion's Game, Night Fall), primarily because the ending seemed to be laid out well in advance, with no twists or surprises (I hope that doesn't ruin it for anyone), though maybe others will find surprises. I thoroughly enjoyed the John Corey dialogue, as it was as good as ever. I also could not put the book down, as all the John Corey books are page-turners for me. I'm looking forward to the next one!

Book Review: Another great one by the master of suspense!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've read every book by Nelson DeMille, and with a couple of exceptions, I loved them all. DeMille can ratchet up the tension with the best of them, and Wild Fire is another serious nail-biter. This is his fourth book with John Corey as the main character, and he makes up a great team with his FBI agent wife Kate. DeMille has developed Corey to the point that he's DeMille's version of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, and I hope Corey is back in DeMille's next novel.

As with some of his other books, the ending leaves you hanging a bit, with some of the political conspiracies unresolved, leading readers to make their own conclusions. That's okay, at least the obvious bad guys are taken care of.

For sheer suspense and tension, Wild Fire is right up there with Charm School and Up Country. That means nonstop reading for 500+ pages of action.

If you like DeMille, don't even think about not getting Wild Fire. It's one of his best.
