This book is well written and very informative. I learned a lot about the history of China and the lives of it's people during the 80 years covered by the author. We are lucky to live in a country where we can read whatever we want. The people of China whose story this is..are restricted from reading it. Americans can barely imagine..a country where political criticism is not permitted. The author Jung Chang obviously loves her family and the people of her native country. She honestly tells the story of her family and the events that shaped their lives. Her writing reminds me of Pearl Buck's. She has the ability to grasp how governmental issues affect the citizenry.
