Book Reviews of Wilderness: The Lost Writings of Jim Morrison, Volume 1Book Review: A study in mind alteration Summary: 5 StarsThe fact that he writes most of his poetry and song in drug induced trance is what makes this book compelling to me. He wrote what most were afraid to confront within themselves. Anger, sadness, rebellion. No matter how horrible the thought, he wished to express it. No matter how negative the response, he would voice this thought, however sinister it may be. True poets share all. This book gives a glimpse into the best rock band of all time. A voice so distinct in a sea of musical monotony. To this day no band has a quality so unique as the music of the doors and jim morrison. Chode!
Book Review: Skeptic turned believer... Summary: 5 StarsI picked this book up with skepticism, poetry from a famous rocker, such a cliche. There are so many of them out there with poetry books. What surprised me is how deep his poetry is. It makes you think and actually try to get into his mind to find secret messages and trap doors. There are several previous comments that rate this book lower than 5 starts because it is hard to understand. Well, poetry is supposed to be hard to understand. It is supposed to make you think. For what other purpose would it exist?
Book Review: experimental verse Summary: 4 StarsIn his prologue to this book, Jim Morrison expresses his belief that "real poetry doesn't say anything, it just ticks off the possibilities". So, this philosophy imbibes these poems. Unfortunately for us, that means many of his poems are hard to understand. But there are always some wonderful lines here and there, like exquisite flowers appearing among the weeds.David Rehak author of "Poems From My Bleeding Heart"
Book Review: A very interesting collection of poetry! Summary: 5 StarsAs I was reading this book, I was overwhwelmed by the brilliance and mystery of the writings in the collection. I always enjoy reading poems that you have to stop and think about, something I have come to expect from the late, great Jim Morrison. The entries were nothing short of phenomenal, and I would be disappointed if the collection delivered any other assortment of writings. I am a relatively new fan of Jim Morrison's poetry, but the impact was incredible. I recommend the book to anyone looking for a challenging read and a few unfathomable, and at times, very confusing, writings, by a truly brilliant artist!
Book Review: If You Love The Doors, You Need This Book Summary: 5 StarsUnlike Kurt Cobain's Journals, this book of Morrison's poetry is insightful and truly introspective. This is a fascinating look into the beautiful mind of a poet of depth, sometimes profound, rarely inane, always interesting, this is a wondful look inside at what made Jim. He was passionate, he was gentle, he was nostalgic for a past completely out of reach, and all of this is protrayed so wonderfully through his words. If you've ever felt a connection to The Doors and want to know the man behind the lyrics a little deeper, this is the book for you.
