Book Reviews of Wise Child

Book Review: An excellent portrayal of what a real witch is like!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was very impressed with the way Juniper was presented. As a real witch, I am appalled by the stereotypes that are so common in books. A true witch is someone who cares about the world and the people around them. This is exactly how Juniper is in this book. Even when her life is at risk, she puts herself on the line to care for those whom she can help.

I will keep a copy of this book to loan to my witch-ignorant friends. It will help them to understand that we are not about black cats, pointy hats, and witches brews! That we are honest, caring people who do our best to help others in need with the skills we have.

Book Review: Something for Everyone - Enchanting and Interesing
Summary: 5 Stars

Welcome to the world of ancient world of witchcraft that was true and not what so many people see it as today. Furlong has created a place of magic from the land of the druids. Taken in by the town witch whom everyone in the village suspicious of, but does not get rid of because she cures their ills after her cousins give her up. Now considered an orphan, the spoiled Wise Child learns much about life and her future from the slightly omniscient Juniper, her witch-teacher who teaches her to read books, the stars, and people. But when temptation of a better life lures the young girl away, she is forced to choose between a woman who has become her best friend and the mother who gave her up long year ago.

Deep and beautiful, enchanting and full of stirring thoughts and passageways into an ancient cutlture, you won't want to put this book down. Five stars because there is nothing that compares to this book. -Lia

Book Review: enthralling
Summary: 5 Stars

I absolutely adored this book. I read it first maybe 4 or 5 years ago, and I've reread it countless times since then, along with its prequel (Juniper). It belongs in a library that includes Tamora Pierce and Robin McKinley... it's a nice blend of fantasy and historical fiction, and any child, young adult or adult who's into magical tales would do well to read both it and Juniper. I read Wise Child first, although it is the sequel to Juniper, but both are equally good and worth reading, whatever the order.

Book Review: Creative
Summary: 5 Stars

I really enjoyed reading the story "Wise Child." It was very creative and made you really feel how the main character was feeling. I also liked all of the description and the plot. It had a GREAT theme and AWSOME details. Anyone of ALL ages would enjoy it and I know you would too!

Book Review: a good novel
Summary: 5 Stars

This engrossing novel was fun and interesting to read. Wise Child is someone that most people can relate to, or at least feel sorry for. Although unlikable at times, she is an interesting character. Juniper is a wonderful motherly figure towards Wise Child and Furlong makes you wish that you had your own Juniper. This book keeps the reader thinking long after it is finished. The ending is the one thing about this book that I wish were different, although you can be satisfied with it once you think about it. This book should be read by all.
