Book Review: A Big Letdown

I enjoyed the preceding books in the series, Hawksong and Snakecharm; both were original and vivid, if hard to follow and somewhat halted at times. Falcondance was harder to follow, but the descriptions of Ahnmik made up for it. But Wolfcry...well, it was a disgrace.
It was the ending that disturbed me. The main character, Olivia, abdicates from the throne - and suddenly becomes a lesbian. Not only is it shocking (as there's no preceding info to foreshadow this) but it is a lazy ending to what could have been a good novel. It's obvious that Atwater-Rhodes decided to integrate some of her own beliefs (she's a lesbian) into this book, and the result was a complete disaster. A word to the wise: don't change the plot of a story so that you can preach what you think is right. It never works.
