Book Reviews of Working on the Edge: Surviving In the World's Most Dangerous Profession: King Crab Fishing on Alaska's HighSeas

Book Review: Spell binding excitement
Summary: 5 Stars

This book should be on the best seller list for nonfiction adventure. Those who have been to sea will relive your worst nightmares; those who haven't will be able to feel the experience as never before. All can relate to Walker's descriptions of what drives the human spirit onward. Don't miss this one!!!!!

Book Review: A survivor profiled says this is a fine, accurate book
Summary: 5 Stars

As a survivor of one of the disasters Mr. Walker has written about, I am hardly disinterested. This book is an excellent and accurate account and I hightly recommend it.

Book Review: A must read textbook for watermen, seafarers, or adventurers
Summary: 5 Stars

As a former crabber on the Chesapeake Bay, I was caught in one bad storm that Mr Walkers recounted sagas more than captured while vividly implanting, the stark terror, drudgery, and rewards of a profession few have experienced. My condolences to the families of those who dared and paid the price; my respect for the survivors. Mr Walkers book puts you out there with the action in a gripping spellbound story, that you will not stop reading until the end. I can't believe this book was not a bestseller and currently available. It was by far one of the best sea survival novels with accurate depictions I have ever read. You are there to fight to save your boat, work the endless rows of crabpots, work hard - play hard, suffer frayed nerves, enjoy good times and hard won cash.

Book Review: Far superior to The Perfect Storm
Summary: 5 Stars

Recommended to me by professional fishermen on Monhegan Island, Maine, this book captures the excitement, danger, and almost intolerable conditions in which people fish for crab. I couldn't put it down. It makes The Perfect Storm seem an exercise in journalistic opportunism to take advantage of the Navigation (Dava Sobel) phenomenon. This isn't a book about remote people and conditions researched by some journalist who's never been to sea. This is authentic and fantastic
