Book Reviews of Working on the Edge: Surviving In the World's Most Dangerous Profession: King Crab Fishing on Alaska's HighSeasBook Review: Solid Summary: 5 StarsThis book offers its reader the opportunity to experience the life an Alaskan crabber at a slightly more in-depth level than just "Deadliest Catch." It is a narrative that sequencely takes you through the exciting "glory days" of the crab industry. The book is full of interesting facts and insights; however, the style flows like a suspense as you await each amazing event of these true stories.
Book Review: Exciting and attention getting Summary: 5 StarsMost people don't think about dangerous jobs, we just want and expect the goods and services they provide. Working on the Edge is a tale of harrowing experiences on the Bering Sea and the people who bring us our seafood. It is a tale of courage and at times what seems like a bit of insanity, to do what they do. The author puts you right in the mix. I highly recommend the book to those who may feel complacent in their jobs, be glad you are where you are.
Book Review: My Favorite Book Ever! Summary: 5 Stars If you are a fan of the Dealiest Catch, you will love this book! If you are not a fan of the show, you will be after reading this book. This book is a page turner, and definately not a cure for insomnia. This book takes you where the show can not, and that is inside the head of one man during his days of Crab fishing on the Bearing Sea in the Dead of Winter.
If you are a fan of the show, the details of the processes involved in King Crab Fishing will be nothing new. The interpersonnal struggles, the heroes saving lives, and the loss of crab fishing "brothers" takes you where the show does not. Best book I have ever read. I ordered the other two about the same topic written by the same man before I even finished the first one. Save yourself the time and order all three together.
Book Review: Working on the Edge Summary: 5 StarsSometimes tense, you-are-there descriptive, well written examples of the range of human physical and mental endurance in the quest for great reward.
Book Review: Working of the Edge Puts You in the Middle of the Action Summary: 5 Stars My husband and I are both fans of the Discover show "The Deadliest Catch" and Spike Walker was on the show talking about the book.My husband is a retired crab fisherman in Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico so I bought Working on the Edge for him. Since he did not begin reading the book when it came, I picked it up and read the prologue and I was hooked! It is a can't put down page turner. The writing is excellent and can literally take you to the deck of a crab boat in the Bering Sea. This is not just a fisherman's book, even a school teacher like me found it fascinating!
