Book Reviews of World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie WarBook Review: Detailed and real Summary: 4 StarsI guess it's read as 'World War Zee'. As a book, the format in which it is presented is both its merit and its downfall. The entire 'novel' is composed of a series of short interviews with different people to offer their actions during the war, or simply their insights. The interviews are in chronological order and build a picture of how the Zombie War progressed. This stilted approach offers no continuity of characters and never really offers a plot. What makes WWZ so clever is the detail. The emotions of war are wonderfully represented; our wartime actions in hindsight are rarely to be commended, atrocities are committed for the 'greater good'. Brooks' though process on how the planet would react depending on culture, history and technology is astounding. There are paragraphs which will make your jaw drop, there are interviews that will spark your interest about cultures and countries other than your own, there is narrative which delivers an emotional payload, and of course there are plenty of moments that will indulge your zombie fetish. WWZ is a clever approach and packs a great punch although, due to it's format may be more enjoyable as an audio book. A high-brow entry in to the zombie genre.
Book Review: Very good zombie stories Summary: 4 StarsTakes a little bit of getting used to but it is very well done. Some of the stories are better then others. Well worth the read. I believe they are making it into a movie! Can't wait.
Book Review: Great idea but.... Summary: 3 StarsThe opening few chapters / diaries are soooo boring and it takes an age to get going. Some of the tales of battles are really gripping though. Overall i would recommend this to fans of the Survival Guide.
Book Review: World War Z Summary: 5 Stars'World War Z', like Brooks 'Zombie Survival Guide', draws you in until your actually start to live the story. It is written in an interview format, where various people recount their experiences during the zombie war, but half way through you really start to live the story and imagine it could be real. The level of detail Brooks adds to this story is staggering and really adds to the overall reality in the book. It is extremely easy to read and looks at all aspects of life around a zombie outbreak, army response and mutiny, new society development, government plans to escape and then fight back, living on water, eradicating the zombies in water, how civilians fought back, dealing with being stranded in a zombie infested area etc etc the list goes on and is exhaustive. If you like zombie books and movies and if you enjoyed 'The Zombie Survival Guide' (which I kind of recommend you read first) then this is the very book for you. Highly recommended.
Book Review: World War Z ...... Summary: 5 StarsBought on whim.... loved it.. not a typical zombie story. very clever. If this was gonna happen this is how it would happen
