Book Reviews of Wrongfully Mine parts 1 & 2Book Review: I Want What's Mines! Summary: 4 Stars
Hassan Campbell, aka Burn, and his crew once reigned supreme in the streets of New Jersey. He ruled "Little City," a notorious housing project with an iron fist until...the feds took him down. But like a cat with nine lives, Burn, after being down eight years, is back! And Burn wants it all. Hustlers new and old, drug dealers new and old can either get down with Burn or lay down in eternal sleep.
Little does Burn know, the feds are more determined than ever to get him once and for all.
In this dangerous game of life and death, who is going to take an L?
Isadore Johnson's newest book, a two-part novel, finds Burn embarking on a strong arm approach to reclaim the streets that were once wrongfully his. "Wrongfully Mine" balances action with story breadth and depth. Now having read three samplings of Isadore's work (Drug Dealer 1 & 2 and short story `The Deceitful; Hunted' in the anthology Menace II Society), I really like that as an writer he refuses to be boxed in writing the same old story that so many others are. Isadore is not afraid to create something new and think outside of the box.
Character development was on point. I liked the Charlene character and the dynamics of her relationship with Burn. Burn was cocky, arrogant and not the most likeable of characters, yet you wanted to see him win at all cost.
I didn't care for the ending. The novel ends, but the conflict rages on. No doubt, a sequel is in the works.
Like "Drug Dealer," "Wrongfully Mine" reads like a movie. It holds readers captive as its plot and subplots intertwine. It was definitely worth reading and easily recommendable.
