Set in North Dakota during WW1. Linnea is an excited 18 year old reading to take up her new position as schoolmarm in Alamo, ND. Theodore is a 34 year old wheat farmer who has always provided room and board for the school teacher. He is disgruntled to find that L.I. Brandonberg is actually the young Linnea when he was expecting a male teacher as has always been the case. Theodore was abandoned by his first wife years earlier leaving both him and their then year old son Kristian. Since that day Theodore has sworn off women with cantankerous fervor. Much to his dismay he finds himself intrinsically drawn to the young schoolmarm, who sees beauty in everything and is a ray of sunshine in his family's life.
More than a love story, Years tells the story of a large solid family who perserveres in harsh ND weather, dealing with loss, heartbreak, and struggle. It is a beautiful story of love and life.
