Book Reviews of Yin YogaBook Review: Yin Yoga Summary: 4 Stars
Great information in this book. Having not been familiar previously with this style of yoga, I was very happy this book was recommended to me. The more I access the information, the more I realize how much can be gained by consistent use. I wish the book was available with a spiral binding for ease of use during routines. A double DVD is also available..
Book Review: Yin Yoga Stretches more than tissue Summary: 5 Stars
I took a Yin Yoga workshop from Sarah Powers and that's how I came to connect with Paul Grilley's book. I use this in my yoga classes and after spending the summer working on my "yin" yoga I have noticed a marked increase in my flexibility. This book is full of very valuable information. Paul covers all the bases! I have a number of students wanting to purchase this book. You won't be disappointed with this book. You can read it ina couple of hours but will find you keep refering back to it because there is so much information in it.
Book Review: Yin Yoga by Paul Grilley Summary: 4 Stars
Nice little book -- loads of information in a concise, easy to read format. Sample practices are useful, but you will need to memorize and understand them before practicing. The format of the book -- softcover, bound -- does not lend itself to being a useful "practice manual." The book won't really lay flat so that you can't refer to it or view specific postures, descriptions, or sequences readily while practicing.
Book Review: Yin yoga is a winner! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been practicing yoga for a number of years. Since I am drawn to the "vinyasa" yoga pratices of Power and Ashtanga, I wasn't sure I'd like this book because Yin yoga poses are held for 4-5 minutes at a time. Being the open-minded person that I am, I decided to give the book and this practice a try.
In the past month, I have new-found length in my spinal muscles, and my hips (which are my tighter spaces) are opening as well. I can't believe how much length and openness I have acheived in such a short time. Yin yoga has tremendously helped my asana practice. I can see and feel the difference in my Ashtanga primary series practice.
I would highly recommend this book to ANY yoga practioner - from beginners to advanced. The poses are safe and effective and you feel the difference in your body very quickly. Paul also has a DVD called "YIN YOGA". It contains 2 discs. The first explains the theory of Yin Yoga. The second is a practice DVD. It contains several YIN yoga sequences and has special YANG yoga sequences that are very "Tai Chi" - like. This DVD kit is a nice compliment to the book.
Book Review: Yipee for Yin!! Summary: 4 Stars
I really love this Yin, I do wish that this book was bound as a spiral, as it would be easier to refer to the poses during the practice. It has helped my back and hamstring issues so much.
I highly recommend it!
