Book Reviews of Yoga AnatomyBook Review: Excellent Anatomy Publication for Teacher Trainee's Summary: 4 Stars
As someone pursuing the 200 hour certification in Yoga I picked up this book after hearing rave upon rave about it. This is an excellent source for the yoga teacher or trainee, it covers many poses ranging from basic to advanced and provides at least 1-2 pages covering everything from contraindications, muscles used and more! Initially, the text is overwhelming but the longer you spend with this text, the more it all makes sense!
I highly recommend this text, it's one you'll return to over and over again.
Book Review: Excellent Book Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very well researched anatomy book. I find this book helpful in my yoga practise.
Book Review: Excellent Reference Book Summary: 5 Stars
As a yoga instructor I find this book extremely helpful to show students which muscles to activate and release for complicated poses. The visuals along with text and explanation assist in understand injuries and possible recommending poses for rehab. Addition, the insight on the human breath and the transition from embryo to human life is amazing. In all the anatomy classes over the years no one has covered how some smaller blood vessels of the baby while in the womb transition to ligaments in the last tri-mester. I guess that is similar to how baby knee caps are developed when they start to crawl. Highly recommended book.
Book Review: Excellent anatomical guide Summary: 5 Stars
Having studied anatomy for nearly 3 decades, I can appreciate the accuracy of the depictions and the muscles utilized in the described poses. Excellent resource to see exactly what the body is doing in the various poses. It is, however, not an instructional guide. Working backwards you can find the area(s) and/or muscle groups you want to affect and see what pose accomplishes that objective. Determining which muscles are being stretched and which are being contracted should be a quite simple and intuitive task after studying the drawings.
Book Review: Excellent breakdown and linkage of postures Summary: 5 Stars
This book is really good. It has an excellent introduction of breath anatomy and explains exactly what muscles and actions are being used in a posture. I also like how it links postures together. For example when looking at forward fold (Uttanasana) it says, for more in deptch exploration look at the sitting version Paschimottanasana. So it also helps with sequencing and linking ideas together. Chef recommends!
