Book Review: Yoga Nidra Meditation CD: Extreme Relaxation of Conscious Deep Sleep Summary: 4 StarsThis CD is good because it really interprets the title itself. First time I heard it I actually fall asleep but conscious that I woke up snoring. So this really applies to put you just in deep meditation or relaxation not really making you fall asleep the whole night.
Book Review: The Beginning of a Wonderful Journey Summary: 5 StarsI just got my Yoga Nidra CD yesterday. My husband and I put it on last night. The sound quality is very good. The voice is very clean and clear. Unfortunately, we fell asleep before we could really get into the meditation. Actually, he fell asleep and his snoring was not conducive to my meditation! I turned the CD off and tried it again later. Then, I fell asleep within a few minutes.
I thought this morning would be a good time to try again and I must say, I was amazed. I didn't fall asleep, but at one point, I did pass quickly through a "dream." It was quite vivid, but very short. During the first part of the meditation, my mind was very active. The voice would say, "Be aware of your forehead." I was aware of my forehead and within a split moment, I was aware of something else! The voice said, "Be aware of your nostrils." I was aware of my nostrils and the breath going in and out, then suddenly I was aware of the bills I had to pay today. Towards the end of my meditation, though, I noticed the stray thoughts started to become fewer and I was able to focus longer on the body part I was supposed to be focusing on. I made it to the 10 minute silent part, the last track, of the cd before my dog started scratching on my bedroom door. I was a bit disappointed at not being able to make it through the entire CD, but what I did do had a very calming effect on the rest of my day. It wasn't a sluggish calm, but a refreshing calm. My muscles felt relaxed, as well as my mind. I can't wait to try again tomorrow. This time, I'll bring the dog in the room with me, so she won't scratch on the door. Maybe she'll make it to Nidra, too!
Book Review: The Best Yoga Nidra CD one can get Summary: 5 StarsFinally I got what I was looking for....peace.
Extremely Relaxing CD, with crystal clear recording and the guided voice of god realized soul makes the spritual journey more enjoyable. If you are a person set out in the path of sprituality, looking for liberation or else just looking for peace or stress free life, then this is the best you can get. Please don't see it as a product, its a gift by swamiji to us and to mankind.
Highly recommended!!
Book Review: great method, poor presentation Summary: 3 StarsThis CD is an attempt to guide the listener through yoga nidra as the great yogi Swami Rama presents it in his book "Path of Fire and Light, vol.II". Unfortunately Bharati does not stay 100 % close to the original instructions. And furhermore his presentation is rather poor, his voice not excactly compelling, and when you do a deeprelaxing technique like this on a CD I feel some relaxing, meditative music would have been great to deepen the relaxation.
There are four exercises on the CD, the three of them really a kind of warm-up to the genuine yoga nidra: 10 min.s concentration on, or better relaxed awareness of, the heart center, that can lead to a state of consciousness when part of you is at aleep and another part is awake and aware that you are 'sleeping'.
The two warm up excersises: the 61 points of relaxation and ascending breath are both wonderful in themselves, but again the presentation does hardly do them justice. And it's really a shame that there is no pause between the various tracks, as there should be, if you want to do them
in one stretch (which is recommended). There should definitely be some seconds for deep breathing and quiet absorption before you turn to the next phase.
I also miss a instruction booklet; there is a spoken introduction, but on that, Bharati gets quite philosophical rather than practical, with some - in my mind - strange views on yoga nidra versus meditation. Presenting a rather distorted view on what meditation is.
This technique is sublime and far better than the fantasy journeys that others present as 'yoga nidra', just a shame Bharati - a renegade disciple of Rama's -who, according to his website, seems to be a
sincere and humorous human being, hasn't been able to come up with something better.
Buy the book, the technique is actually so well described in it, that it's very easy to learn it on your
own. And in that way you are sure to get it right.
