Book Review: WONDERFUL BOOK!

I love this book. The entire thing is beautiful and I love what it says about the relationship between parent and child. As parents, we are responsible for teaching our children and "grounding" them to some degree. Our children, in turn give us life and energy - they remind us not to take life too seriously, they make us laugh and let us know sometimes it is OK to eat chocolate cake. I think this book is wonderful and both my three year old and 19 month old adore it. It is one of our bedtime must haves!Book Review: So touching and sweet!

I think whoever wrote the ed. review from Pub. weekly must have been drunk or something. I really don't know how someone could think this book is boring either. I thought the words were so beautiful and simple. This is a book for young children and their parents, not an english lit class. When I stood reading this in the bookstore my heart melted. The illustrations were so expressive, they went hand in hand with the words; everything about this book captures the essence and joy of being a mom or dad. We received this book from my in-laws shortly after we found out we would be adopting our daughter. The first time my husband read it to her, he cried...he does not cry often at all. The first time I read it to her, I could not finish the words out loud. All the feelings we have for our daughter, all the turmoil and work it took to get her home, a flood of emotions came over each of us as we shared that special first reading with her, snuggled in our arms. We knew she was finally where she was meant to be...home. This book perfectly put into words all the things we did not know how to tell her.
When we read it now the emotional flood still comes forth, but the tidewaters are not as strong. The memories of how she came into our lives come back into view and we once again realize how truly blessed we are.

I have purchased a copy of this book for every baby and small child I love. The poignant, yet sincere and funny story has become a nightly favorite of several of my nieces and nephews. I can't wait to some day have grandkids of my own to read this book to. I only wish it were written when my son was little. It is one of those books once read to a child a few times they will be able to repeat the story to the reader by looking at the exquisite watercolor prints.
