Book Review: lifechanging

Today I celebrate my first anniversary of having read this book. A year ago, I picked up this book from an author I stumbled upon while listening to radio shows.
A few years ago I had no idea what spirituality was, I had no opinion about it. I'm a pretty grounded guy, science and proof/result oriented (psychology&academic research is what I have studied). But nothing has brought more color and understanding to my life than this book.
I knew after finishing the book I would not look at life the same way. One year later I look back at just how much impact this single book has made on my thinking. It has affected all areas of my life, all my relationships, my beliefs and the way I walk through life. No other book has such a pervasive influence on my life (and I have read a book or two).
When I first took a crack at the first chapters, I had a hard time with it. This wasn't one of those fluffy-feel-good eat it like chocolate cake kind of books. It doesn't leave you with a sugar high, only to be followed by a continuation of life lived just as you lived it before. This however is the experience for many books in the self help and spirituality genre. They appeal informationally, they have the sugar taste, but they don't seem to affect your life. This book is just different. It's not overly complicated either and it won't bore you to sleep like some titles in the genre I shall not name.
That is not to say that the basis of the ideas in this book are anything new. The author is the first to state this at the very start. Everything has been said before many times over - but, what makes any idea transform into something meaningful is the way in which it is presented and the time in which it is presented. This author thrives at using engaging and entertaining stories and pieces of wisdom from religions and streams of thought in ways you can digest them.
She knows how to combine the profoundly funny with the profoundly wise. It shattered my idea of 'boring' and dry spirituality / life philosophy. The book also made me realise how important it is to be armed with spiritual intelligence, because it effects every part of our lives. She says it best with:
"If your wisdom isn't pulling your butt out of the fire, it's worth nothing"
There is one line in this book that on its own is worth its wait in gold. One line can change your life. The title of the book, contains the first part. The second part can change the way the way you experience life forever.
The book is best read one chapter at a time. I've probably gone over every chapter 3 times by now, and although the main message is interwoven into every chapter, every time you read it, it starts to integrate that more deeply.
I don't want to give much away about this book. But if you want to know....

* How to recognize shit from Shin'ola
* About the other Leonardo Da Vinci nobody has heard of, a scientist who explored the world of the mind like Leonardo explored the material world.
* To change the way you think about dreaming
* Why spiritual intelligence is required for those that are serious about fun and devoted to living a meaningful life
and you want it presented in a non-pretentious, keep it real, entertaining and profound way
...this book is for you
Even better, I would implore anyone to testdrive her sense of humor and spiritual yet practical wisdom on one of her radioshows. She has many guests on her show, but her solo radio shows are the ones that do it for me. I haven't seen anybody that funny, to the point, wise and compassionate all at the same time. I've heard her handle callers faced with problems like a child's death to people frustrated with their job and every time she delivers a mindblowing, compassionate, heartfelt message that the person needed to hear. Goosebump-style.
This book was one I needed to read, I think anyone could do with a dose of this.
this was my small way of saying thanks for such a gift of book, while I read this for a 4th time. Looking forward to the next one.
