Book Reviews of You Can Read Anyone

Book Review: Loved It, LOVED IT !!!
Summary: 5 Stars

You will not find a more creative approach to reading people, then this book. I am personally so tired of the promises of body language books, and in fact Dr. Lieberman makes a point to say that his book has almost nothing to do with body language.

While he covers the basics of body language, most of the book is devoted to much smarter strategies. This book has NOTHING TO DO WITH PEOPLE CROSSING THEIR ARMS, LOOKING SIDEWAYS, FLIPPING THEIR HAIR, and so on!

Also what's very interesting is that he explains the psychology behind the techniques.

Cons: Too short. It could have been twice as long. And the cover is not my taste.

Pros: The techniques are amazingly accurate, great real-life examples, very interesting insights into human behavior, and I found them EASY to use. They ACTUALLY WORK! You can't help but be AMAZED at how you can know what someone is thinking without him saying a SINGLE word.

I am anxiously awaiting his new book, Find Out Who's Normal and Who's Not. It sounds like vintage Lieberman!

Book Review: Marvelous
Summary: 5 Stars

I do not often take to writing critiques, for each man and woman has his/her own tastes. Nonetheless, I will tell you that this book was most enchanting. It is not written though, for the dim-witted nor for those who are looking for "tips," and what not. Rather, the Author has presented us with a genuine work, rich with examples and scenarios for those whose lives require a leg-up on others.

Using one technique, I was mortified to learn how someone in my employ had been stealing from me, but it is better than no knowing, I suppose. My niece too, has benefited by another tactic, but I shall not write about this now.

In summary, I encourage this book to be read.

Book Review: Not a Body Language Book
Summary: 2 Stars

This is not a body language book. When I ordered it, I thought it was a body language book because it appeared in the search results. Later I found out that it is merely a book on psychology. Also, it is relatively short.

Book Review: Not really worth the read
Summary: 2 Stars

Although this book is categorized as "body language", it does not deal with non-verbal communication. The first half of the book deals with how to interrogate others to obtain whether or not they are telling the truth.

The techniques are quite complex, and unless you are in a position to thoroughly interrogate others on a frequent basis (thus practice them), the techniques will not apply to you. I did find the techniques sound, yet not necessarily what the average person would find during common-place communication.

As others have mentioned, the second half of the book is pretty much a "Dr. Phil" show. It's all about self-esteem, and how to detect if someone has it or not. I've read a plethora of books on non-verbal communication, persuasion, etc., and frankly this is the first book I actually stopped reading.

If I were in a position where it was imperative that I solicit the truth from others, then I would re-address this book and lay out a game plan for implementing the techniques offered in the first half of the book, but until then I'd say the book was pretty much a waste of time--for me at least.

Book Review: Not worth reading
Summary: 1 Stars

Lieberman seems to have watched to many bad cop shows to research this book. Many of the assumptions exclude basic techniques to baseline people. The assumptions and generalities he suggests for reading others seem to use the premise that all people have the same thought process. The generalities made in this book could possibly apply to reading young street thugs and that's about it. I bought "I Can Read You Like a Book" at the same time and found it very informative. I Can Read You Like a Book: How to Spot the Messages and Emotions People Are Really Sending With Their Body Language The author of I can read you like a book actually has field experience.
