Book Reviews of Your Inner CEO: Unleash the Executive WithinBook Review: Great book from a credible source offering practical, real world advice. Summary: 5 StarsBefore the term "executive coach" was invented, Allan Cox was one! This book has the double advantage of offering real/practical advise, and is written by someone who actually knows what he is talking about.
Book Review: Development Advice that is Spot-On Summary: 5 StarsAllan Cox has distilled years of experience and success as an executive coach in a helpful and very readable guide for developing your leadership talent. Through exercises, examples, and insight, he helps readers to identify their unique gifts and to build on them. I have already recommended the book to others who want to be better at leading and collaborating, and I am using his shared wisdom to assist leaders within my own organization.
Book Review: Cox at His Best Summary: 5 StarsAllan holds a mirror up in front of aspiring leaders and talks them through their warts and all. You will race through the first reading, then go back often to reflect on the important pearls of wisdom Allan shares. The chapter on dealing with boards is a must read for any up and coming CEO.
Buy this book for those times when it's inconvenient to convene your personal board of directors.
Book Review: A life-changing book Summary: 5 StarsThis is a life-changing book--one of those rare books that achieves far more than it promises. Allan Cox challenges us to understand the fundamental forces underlying our behavior. These are forces that lead to either success or failure. Since these forces are fundamental, they don't apply just to business, but to all relationships. Your Inner CEO isn't a book that you simply read, it's one you live. Living it will not only maximize your potential for success, it will provide a better life for all those who surround you.
Book Review: Your Inner CEO Summary: 4 StarsIn 1985, as I was (literally) flying from California to Chicago to assume a significant new role with my employer, I read Allan Cox's book The Making of the Achiever. That book was for me my "Ah Ha, that's it" moment. By the time I landed at O'Hare, I had my blueprint for my new job. I have, admittedly, followed Cox's work even since.
Cox's latest highly readible effort, Your Inner CEO, is yet another blueprint for those who want the spark that will allow them to move from one level ("ordinary performance") to the top ("extraordinary accomplishment"). To help us "get that," Allan Cox shares stories from his personal coaching experiences that clearly and comprehensively provide roadmaps for those of us who may need to work harder on ourselves that we do on our jobs -- a good learning message.
Another take away, highlighted by self assessments used by Cox to help us stay on message, is the importance of understanding oneself before we can (most effectively) understand the environment around us. While all nine chapters of Your Inner CEO are solid --- Goals, Changes, Boundries and Models have much to offer.
