Book Reviews of Your Pregnancy Week by Week (Your Pregnancy Series)Book Review: factual and informative Summary: 5 StarsThis book has a factual stance to the subject and avoids the 'pink fluffy' approach which many books suffer. I wanted a book that assumes some level of biological understanding without having to refer to my old A level folder, and I found it.
Book Review: Informative, but not good for first time nervous mums... Summary: 5 StarsI am in my 30th week of pregnancy & this book was one of the first I bought. I read "my week" every Monday night, and look forward to finding out how big my baby has grown & what he is up to this week. HOWEVER...and it is a BIG however, each week there is a section saying how your actions may affect your unborn child, and also information on things that can go wrong. I have found that this information is rather scare-mongering & it alsmost seems as though the author is running out of points to make by 25 weeks or so, in the last four weeks I have read about fetal fatalities & cancer in the unborn child. Now I do understand that there are people who unfortunately have to deal with these sort of problems, however, they are rare and the context of this book makes them seem common. The general tone of the book is now reaching rather morbid stakes & is rather disappointing after all these weeks. Perhaps we could have had a shorter diary-like book for those of us who really want to know our pregnancy "week by week" and a dramatic addition to the book detailing what can go wrong, I suspect I know which would sell more...T Galloway
Book Review: Rather heavy, not good for the nervous Summary: 2 StarsI found this book lacked a humorous approach to what can be a very nerve-racking time, especially for the first-time Mum. Every week there is some tale of woe that can befall you. I am now safely 32 weeks pregnant, but there have been weeks when I haven't wanted to read vast sections of this book, because it is so doom-laded. Having recently bought Vicki Lovine's book on the first year of Motherhood, I wish that I'd bought her book on pregnancy instead.
Book Review: Useful general info but also insults your intellect! Summary: 3 StarsI started off liking this book a lot but then came across sections that I could not believe were in there. Amongst some very interesting medical info were sections designed to cover the readers apparent concerns. e.g. Is it OK to still drive? Is it OK to eat out in restaurants? The answer to this question, according to the book is "yes but not too often!" Please do not take this book too seriously.
Book Review: A great weekly guide to pregnancy Summary: 4 StarsThis is a great book, there's plenty to read for each week and plenty of information to dip into elsewhere. Also it's not as "doom and gloom" as many other books, which I think go on far too much about the things that can go wrong. Although it's important to know the signs of miscarriage etc, I feel some books mention the things that could go wrong far too often, whereas this book is much more positive and allows you to get excited about what's happening inside you. It's also a good book to show snippets to your partner (it even has "dad tips", such as buy your partner a present - what a great idea!)I do think that you would need another book in addition to this one (some things you would want more detail on), but I love this book and enjoy dipping into it much more than my other books.
