Book Reviews of Your Right to Be Beautiful: How to Halt the Train of Aging and Meet the Most Beautiful YouBook Review: Huh? Yikes! Summary: 1 StarsI have not finished this book yet but so far I think this woman is a nut. Referring to grocery store shelves as morgues for "dead" food. That's just stupid and weird. No cooked food? None? Forget it, lady.
She has some good ideas but they are taken to the extreme.
Book Review: Your Right to Be Beautiful: How to Halt... Summary: 4 StarsThis book will motivate people to pursue a lifestyle more conducive to health and beauty, as the two go hand in hand. It's actually quite simple--eat the foods that are naturally healthy for you and avoid the "factory foods" toxic to your body, and therefore to your appearance, because both are directly linked, especially as one ages. With her scientific background, she takes apart some unquestioned beliefs about nutrition, and this is where I feel she contributes most. I heard her speak in CA and she is a dynamic speaker. But the book is somewhat disappointing if you want more practical advice and have already read a book or two on the raw food lifestyle. It's good for beginners though, and to get motivated (if you need the motivation). She also spends a lot of time on her emotional issues with beauty--too much time I think.
Book Review: Inspiring, motivating and encouraging. Summary: 5 StarsI have read dozens of raw food books and originally adopted a raw food diet to stop my debilitating arthritis. A raw food diet is powerful: it completely eliminates my arthritis pain. However, there are days when the lack of arthritis pain is simply not enough: my cravings for cooked food are so unbearable that I need additional motivation. That's where Tonya's book always delivers.
Tonya's book is motivational, encouraging, informative - like a trusted counselor who is always there to support you. She understands that people have a strong desire to look beautiful. In her book she clearly supports the truth that healthy IS beautiful and explains how a raw food diet leads to fantastically good health -- and therefore, glowing natural beauty.
When so many raw food books address the logical, scientific reasons to maintain a raw diet, Tonya's book appeals to the quiet hope in each of us that we can become healthier, stronger and more beautiful.
I recommend this book for anyone who has a good understanding of raw food diets and wants the motivation to stay on a raw food diet to find their most beautiful self.
Book Review: Fantastic book. Summary: 5 StarsThis book is exceptional. It is highly informative and inspiring. She's brutally honest about true beauty and how not having it can affect every area of your life negatively.I've started to follow the authors advice and amazed by the changes in my body. This is a must-read. If you want to LOSE WEIGHT you won't find any gimmicks here, just sound nutritional advice.
If you are a meat-eater and want to transition into vegetariansim and then veganism before become a few foodist, I recommend starting with Dr. Ornish's Eat More, Weigh Less. However, I wish I had found Tonya's book first and had the inclination to be a raw foodist sooner because it's SO much healthier for you. For information on juicing, I recommend Jay Kordich's book (which she also mentions in Your Right To Be Beautiful).
