Book Review: Zerostrata: A Bizarro Love Story

Zerostrata reads like a dark lollipop with a sweet tasty center in the dream world of Tim Burton . It's basically a love story but not a typical one.
Hansel Nothing returns home after being away for ten years. He doesn't recall where he has been. His mother, who is always wearing the family cat on her wigged head, has a sort of male escort that entertains her, while his brother lays on his back in the basement listening to various types of odd music and rhythmic sounds created by various objects. Hansel decides to visit Zerostrata the unique treehouse in the backyard that has it's own elevator. While in the treehouse reflecting on his past, Hansel sees a young lady running nude in the rain. He instantly falls for her. Hansel decides to visit Dr. Blast at the request of his mother. After meeting with Dr. Blast and having a strange magical experience, Hansel's life transforms from a dark, depressing one into one of magical joy and happiness. While his brother seeks to be the sidekick of their superhero father, Hansel likes to stay up in the treehouse thinking of a way to meet the naked runner, whose name happens to be Gretel Something.
I've read three other books by Andersen Prunty, The Overwhelming Urge, Jack and Mr. Grin, The Night the Moon Made a Sound, all of which I enjoyed immensely (especially The Night the Moon...), but Zerostrata is my absolute favorite. Its a surreal trip that touches the heart. I would love to see this magical novella adapted into a film.
