A real-life account of life in a war zone. Zlata Filipovic, a normal child living in the Balkans until war errupts in her country and changes her life forever. A book suitable for children of all ages and adults too. This diary tells the reader what life was really like for, not only a child, but her family and friends too. Children reading this can think about not having enough food to eat, not seeing loved ones for many days and not being able to play outside with friends. Zlata's diary begins before the war started and lets the reader know what life was like before the war. Included in the diary are photos of Zlata's childhood and family ski-ing holidays but also photos of children standing alone next to soldiers and infront of destroyed homes. A poignant read and a book that can be read over and over.
