Book Review: Tame time at the Zoo

As a keen fan of novels set in Berlin in the twentieth century, I grabbed this book off the shelf as soon as I spotted it and read it quickly. And it is easy to read, especially as its written in bite-sized chunks.
Its got the feeling of a TV pilot show-there just have to be further adventures to come for our journalist hero John Russell in his tussles with the Nazis, Soviets and even the Brits.
The plot never lags, the atmosphere and detail successfully evoke Berlin on the eve of the Second World War, there are no other distracting story-lines.
But....isn't it all just too easy? The contacts all turn-up when they should, the Gestapo never appear when they shouldn't, the car never breaks-down, the phone-calls always come, even his German girl-friend never refuses him a leg-over. I know we all like a happy ending, but it can't have been that easy, surely? Let's hope the kid gets blown-up in the first British bombing raid in the sequel-that'll raise an interesting moral dilemma for our man.
